FAQ - Applying for Certification


Can I apply for initial certification online?
Yes, applicants must have a web account. After logging-in, you can click on "Enroll" on the specific certification program. Official transcripts must be mailed to SAF. SAF does accept official electronic transcripts submitted directly to SAF by the university. Electronic transcripts submitted by the applicant will not be accepted.

Can I apply for state licensure online via the SAF website?
No, you must apply directly to the state board of licensure. In the states of Maine, South Carolina, and Georgia you may apply online to take the exam. Applicants must provide evidence of approval by the state board. 

How do I indicate I completed a requirement for initial certification?
Some requirements allow you to select "Record Completion" to enter your completion details. Other requirements may require SAF staff approval and recording of your completion. 

Can I apply for reexamination online?
Yes, an applicant that does not pass the certification exam or a state licensure exam may submit the payment online. Please wait 2 to 3 business days for SAF staff to update your record with the exam results prior to applying. 

Can I follow my certification progress online?

Yes, an applicant can track their progress by logging into the SAF website.


Applicants may continue to submit a hard copy application. However, you must go online to view the status of the application.

Application Fee

SAF Members:  $260
SAF Non-members: $335

Application fee includes a one-time certification exam; one-time online practice exam; and one copy of the study guide.
