SAF Shares Comments with EPA on Forest Roads

February 12, 2016 – SAF submitted comments to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in response to its “Notice of Opportunity to Provide Information on Existing Programs That Protect Water Quality from Forest Road Discharges,” published in the Federal Register at 80 Fed. Reg. 69,653.

SAF is proud that forested watersheds, including those managed primarily for timber production, produce the best water quality in the United States (Brown et al. 2008). Many SAF members devote their careers to the development, improvement, and monitoring of Best Management Practices (BMPs), including those designed to reduce the effects of stormwater runoff from forest roads. SAF believes that state BMPs are the most effective way to control and mitigate nonpoint source pollution from forest roads.
