Henry Clepper Internship

SAF established the Henry Clepper Forest Policy Internship in memory of Henry Clepper, long-time executive director of SAF and a leader in the forestry community. The internship is an excellent opportunity to learn about federal natural resources policy, work closely with the SAF team, and network with partner organizations in DC.

Internship activities vary but usually include: attending congressional hearings; participating in meetings with congressional staff, agencies, and partner groups; researching/analyzing proposed bills and rules; helping to write comments, letters, and other communication materials; assisting with outreach to state societies and student chapters; writing articles for The Forestry Source and Issues & Advocacy Now; and more long-term research projects. We will work with interns to structure the experience to best match their needs and interests.

The internship offers a stipend of $1,400 per month. The time commitment is flexible, although a minimum term of three months is preferred. Terms generally run from January-April and May-August.

To apply, please email a resume, cover letter, and short writing sample to Danielle Watson. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis

Mollie Beattie Internship

Established by the SAF Board of Directors in 2015, this internship is named after Mollie Beattie, the first woman to head the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. She sought to conserve endangered species by managing landscapes and ecosystems. Educated in philosophy and forestry, she inspired, mentored and dared her friends, colleagues and young people to be more and do more than they thought possible.

Internship details are being developed and will be available in late 2016.

Funding for the internship is provided by the Mollie Beattie Fund. Future contributions will ensure development of new programs. Please donate today!
