Itinerary

Sunday, 9/24
  • Arrive Crescent City. Reception at hotel by Anglatin Ltd. Hotel check-in. Welcome group dinner.
Monday, 9/25
  • Visit an old-growth redwood stand, Stout Grove, and Jedidiah Smith State Park. Visit a coast redwood plantation and see plantation management, including fire mitigation. Group lunch. Travel to Oregon Caves National Monument. Hotel check-in. Optional night-tour of the caves.
Tuesday, 9/26
  • Hike old-growth mixed-conifer forest with guide at Oregon Caves National Monument. Discuss fire mitigation with management. Travel to Grants Pass, Oregon. Group lunch. To Riddle, Oregon. Tour of cross-laminated timber plant. To the Seven Feathers Casino and Resort. Check-in.
Wednesday, 9/27
  • Travel North to Roseburg, Oregon. Meet with National Park and US Forest Service officials, and discuss management practices and philosophies, and fire mitigation. Group lunch. Visit Umpqua drainage land managed by the US Forest Service. Depart north to Eugene, Oregon, location of the University of Oregon. Hotel check-in.
Thursday, 9/28
  • To modern sawmill, north Eugene. Tour mill as well as the cogen facility on the mill site that provides municipal power to the grid. Travel north to Corvallis, home town of Oregon State University. Seminar with College of Forestry faculty covering research, teaching and extension programs. Group lunch. Travel to Philomath, Oregon and visit with representatives of Starker Forests. Visit the Starker forest for an interpretive tour. Return to Corvallis and check-in at hotel.
Friday, 9/29
  • To the World Forestry Center, Portland. Meet with World Forestry Center and Oregon Forest Resources Institute representatives. Tour of World Forestry Center. Catered group lunch at World Forestry Center. Presentation by OFRI covering forest management philosophies and current market utilization trends in PNW. Transfer to airport and flights home.
