2021 Virtual Convention FAQ
As of May 3, 2021. Note: This page will be updated as more information is released about the 2021 virtual convention. Questions that will be addressed in the coming weeks will focus on continuing education credits, registration details, refund policies, and what can be expected at this year’s event.
What is a virtual convention?
A virtual convention involves most of the elements you could expect with an in-person event, including plenary and concurrent sessions, workshops, posters, receptions, exhibit hall, and a career fair. All of these are accessible through a website. You will see video of presentations along with presentation slides and be able to ask presenters questions when they get to audience Q&A. Likewise, you can visit and communicate with exhibitors. Some events will be live, and others will involve recorded content with real-time presenter chat. Unlike an in-person event, all sessions will be recorded and accessible to you during the convention and through the end of 2021.
When will registration open?
Registration prices will be announced by June 1, 2021, and will open on July 1, 2021.
When will virtual sponsorship offerings be available?
Virtual sponsorship offerings will be announced by mid-May. If you are already participating as a sponsor, Delaney Meeting & Event Management, SAF’s meeting management contractor, will be in contact with you about a refund/exchange policy.
When will the virtual schedule-at-a-glance be available?
We are updating our schedule now and will release it shortly. All big stage speakers are still on deck to present! We will announce our full slate of speakers by September.
Aside from educational events, what other offerings can I expect from this year’s virtual convention?
We are excited for the return of many the virtual events that we hosted last year including alumni receptions, posters, career fair, networking receptions, and a virtual trade show. New virtual activities will include quiz bowl, virtual tours, SAFter party, unique fundraisers, and much more! We will also have networking and competitive gaming opportunities for all attendees through this year’s virtual platform.
I usually renew my membership at convention, how can I do that with the virtual convention?
To ensure you received the discounted member registration rate for the convention, we encourage you to renew your membership prior to registering by going to www.safnet.org/renewnow
and logging in. If your membership is in good standing and you want to renew during the convention, you can proceed to the SAF booth in the Exhibit Hall and follow the link to renew membership. If you need to make changes prior to renew or need additional assistance, you can contact staff using direct email links, the chat function, or call us.
Now that the Convention is going virtual, when will we be meeting in person again?
The next SAF National Convention will take place September 18-23, 2022, in Baltimore, MD.
Will we be returning to California?
We will be meeting in Sacramento, CA, for the 2023 National Convention. Our 2023 Convention will kick off SAF’s “rebook tour” and we plan on visiting Colorado-Wyoming and New England areas in the years that follow.
