So, you’ve made it to the point in your forestry education that you’re starting to look for a job when you graduate.  Perhaps you’ve interned somewhere and have a job lined up, that’s great! But for some of us, we know the opportunities are out there but they’re difficult to find.  Look no further than the SAF Convention! The Forest Service will have a large hiring event as they usually do, but many other entities, public and private are looking to hire as well.  Some will have virtual booths, but others will be at the virtual Student Meet Up.  This event, on Thursday, November 4th from 11am-12:30pm (EST), will host professionals from around the nation who are eager to connect with students.  You’ll get to meet them and learn more about what they do.  This is especially helpful if you’re looking into potential forestry careers. Many of these professionals are looking to hire!  Bring your questions, meet fellow students, and learn more about forestry careers!

Looking to find more insight on a particular topic? Check out the many seminars on a variety of topics in forestry that will be offered throughout the week.  The seminar, Positioning for Individual Success – Saturday November 6 at 2:00-2:30pm EST, will focus on SAF Certified Forester Credential.  Let’s Hear from Students – Saturday, November 6th 11:00am-12:30pm ET, focuses on graduate students sharing their experiences in school.  If you’ve just graduated and are looking to connect with other young professionals, then check out the Young Professional Coffee Hour – Friday November 5th 10:00-10:45am EST.  Get to know other foresters early in their careers.  Another great way to get more out of your SAF membership is to get involved. Working groups help shape policy and the profession of forestry and they are always looking for more members.  The key to any professional organization - the more you put in, the more you get out. Let’s not forget about the social events too like the Opening Reception and SAFter Party!

The SAF National Convention is a place for learning and growth.  It’s the place to network with forestry professionals from around the country.  While not in-person, we’ve shown that it’s still possible to connect through virtual means, so come check out the great events and seminars on careers, education, and networking at the SAF National Convention November 3-6, 2021.
