Seeking Volunteer Mentors for SAF's Student Diversity Scholar Program
January 17, 2023
The Society of American Foresters is excited to launch the
2023 Student Diversity Scholar Program, which aims to intentionally bring together students from underrepresented groups in forestry and natural resources to help them navigate, grow, and thrive in the profession. Each student of the 2023 cohort will be paired with a mentor and participate in virtual networking and learning opportunities throughout the year. We are currently seeking professionals in forestry and natural resources to serve as mentors for the program.
Mentors can help serve as a guide for students figuring out their professional path. To provide structure for connecting with your student mentee, there are several events that mentors are asked to participate in throughout the year--most of which can be attended virtually. We also prioritize and highly encourage mentors that can attend the
SAF National Convention, which is attended by all Diversity Scholars and is the climax of the program.
We match mentors with students based on a student’s professional interests. For this reason, it's beneficial to have mentors from all corners of the profession.
We encourage you to apply!
