Each year at the NYSAF Annual Meeting, several awards are presented to individuals and groups that make significant contributions to forestry in New York State and the Society as a whole.

This distinguished recognition is considered by many SAF members as the highest honor that our professional organization may bestow upon our members.

New York SAF Awards

FORESTRY COMMUNICATIONS

Objective: To recognize outstanding efforts to promote public understanding and appreciation of forest resources, management and stewardship. When awarded for news cover- age of forestry issues and/or SAF activities, coverage should be fair, accurate and comprehensive.

Award Recipients

SOCIETY COMMENDATION

Objective: To recognize a person or an organization for their extraordinary efforts or significant contributions in support of the Society and/or the forestry profession.

Award Recipients

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE

Objective: To recognize a NYSAF member for their outstanding professional service, dedication and long-standing contributions to the New York Society of American Foresters. Awarded by the NYSAF Executive Committee by majority vote. Note: this award is not necessarily given out every year, but rather as deserved.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Objective: To recognize exceptional forestry and environmental related services and contributions provided to any community.

FORESTRY/ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

Objective: To recognize outstanding accomplishments in forestry education, aimed at any audience, which have increased the understanding and appreciation of forest re- sources, forest management and the full spectrum of forest values and benefits.

FORESTER OF THE YEAR

Objective: To recognize outstanding contributions to the practice and profession of forestry, the conservation and stewardship of forest resources in New York, and the objectives of the Society of American Foresters.

CHAIR’S COMMENDATION

Objective: To recognize a person or organization for their special assistance, contributions or ser- vice to the Chair of the NY Society. Awarded by the Chair at his/her discretion.
