An important part of SAF's mission is to advance the education of foresters and forestry in New York. To advance the education of practicing foresters, NYSAF sponsors and/or co-sponsors several continuing education events each year. These occur at both the chapter and state level. All NYSAF meetings and events are designed to be student-friendly and affordable, and some NYSAF members are directly involved with students and/or student chapters of the SAF. The SAF is the official accrediting body of college-forestry programs in the United States. Forestry programs at the following New York colleges have been accredited by the SAF: SUNY-ESF (Syracuse and Wanakena), Paul Smith's College.
