Ernst V. Brender

Born: Giengen/Brenz, Germany 1905 BSF and MF University of Michigan

Project Leader, US Forest Service Hitchiti Forest, Macon, Georgia (1945-1975)

Outstanding authority on the silvics and silviculture of Piedmont loblolly pine. Untiring advocate of ecologically sound forestry practices. Active in the Society of American Foresters. Organized first sub-chapter in Georgia, at Macon.

Inducted in the Georgia Foresters Hall of Fame 1971.


C. Dorsey Dyer

Born: Edison, Georgia 1916

Significant contribution to improved naval stores practices. Initiated many forestry activities for Georgia's 4-H clubs. Promoted sound forestry practices among small landowners.

James D. "Red" Strange

Associate Area Director for State and Private Forestry, US Forest Service, Atlanta 1964-1969

Displayed outstanding leadership in the Soil and Conservation Society of America and the Society of American Foresters. USAID and FAO forestry consultant to Costa Rica and India. Respected for initiative and leadership.

Inducted in Georgia Foresters Hall of Fame 1971.


Basil Ernest Allen

Born: Anderson, South Carolina 1919

Director of Woodlands Union Camp Corporation

Served the Society of American Foresters in numerous offices at the chapter, section, and national levels. Active in civic, professional, and industrial organizations. Widely known for educational work in 4-H clubs and Future Farmers of America.

Charles A. Connaughton

Born: Placerville, Idaho 1908

Regional Forester US Forest Service, Atlanta. Served with distinction in US Forest Service for 43 years.

Promoted forestry on Georgia's soil banks lands.

President, American Forestry Association 1971-1973. President, Society of American Foresters 1960-1961.

L.W.R. Jackson

Recognized research scientist in forest pathology, genetics, and silviculture. Directed studies on fiber length and other genetic variables. Developed grafting techniques used in genetic research.

Frank A. Bennett

Silviculturalist and Project Leader, Forest Service Research Station, Cordele, Georgia and Olustee, Florida 1947-1975.

Pioneer in research of slash pine plantation management. Authority on growth and yield of planted slash pine. Prominent in Society of American Foresters affairs.

S.B. Kinne, Jr.

Pioneered evenaged southern pine silviculture. Instrumental in formulating the southern forest fire compact. Advocated of high professional standards, inspired professional integrity in young forestry employees.

Harry Guyton DeLoach

Born: Claxton, Georgia 1916

Director, Georgia Forestry Commission, 1949-1960

Modernized the Georgia Forestry Commission, conceived the Forestry Center at Macon, placed employees under a merit system, established an effective statewide air patrol and radio communication network, fostered creation of the Georgia Forest Research Council and the first state seed orchard; greatly expanded nurseries.

Inducted in Georgia Foresters Hall of Fame 1975.


John W. Cooper

Born: Athens, Georgia 1911

Noted for conservation work in naval stores and fire control. Member of numerous forestry organizations, and an active supporter of Georgia's School of Forest Resources. Generous with his time in helping young foresters and students.

William H. McComb

Brought wildlife prevention and control to southeast Georgia. Successfully promoted forest management on private land. Modernized and computerized forest resource survey.

Douglass A. Craig

Administered the Soil Bank Reforestation Program, adding nearly 2,000,000 acres of plantations across the South. Guided development of the Eastern Tree Seed Laboratory at Macon. Began the Southern Cooperative Forest Fire Prevention Program. Conceived Georgia Foresters Hall of Fame Award Program.

Inducted in Georgia Foresters Hall of Fame 1978.


Archie E. Patterson

For 41 years, taught forestry students forest management, professionalism, and professional ethics. An active member of the Society of American Foresters. Served in many local, state, and national offices. Nationally recognized as the ethical conscience of the forestry profession, and as the father of forester registration.
