SAF Announces Outstanding Student Chapter Awards

The 2016 SAF Outstanding Student Chapter Award will be given to Mississippi State University, in recognition of the outstanding SAF student chapter in the nation and its faculty representative during an academic year.

Three student chapters are recognized annually during the SAF National Convention. The first place student chapter, Mississippi State University, receives a $500 honorarium. Colorado State Alpha Student Chapter will be awarded second place, and Northern Arizona University Student Chapter will be awarded third. All three student chapters will be recognized in The Forestry Source. The school's department head and/or dean, the university president, and the SAF faculty representative will receive notification of the award.

Mississippi State University usually attracts some 30 students to its meetings and sometimes as many as 40 or 50 because the chapter works to ensure professional opportunities for students. Mississippi State University SAF Student Chapter faculty representative is Dr. Robert K. Grala.

The award recognizes the accomplishments of the student chapter during the academic year, for membership; service to SAF and its members; service to the college or university; involvement with other natural resources organizations; outreach and community involvement; and chapter management.  Read more about the award here
