SAF Welcomes Terry Baker as New CEO

September 6, 2018

We are pleased to announce that Terry Baker has accepted the position as SAF’s new chief executive officer and will begin on September 17, 2018. An SAF member since 2002, Terry previously served as deputy forester supervisor on the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland in Fort Collins, Colorado.

“We are excited to have someone with Terry’s breadth of experience in leading large organizations, as well as his intimate knowledge and expertise in forestry and the larger community of natural resource management,” said SAF President David S. Lewis, ACF, CF, RF. “Terry has a reputation for being a leader who values relationships, a leader who listens, and a leader who takes action. He has experience in building partnerships and strategic alliances to leverage outcomes. Terry will expand relationships with key partners and stakeholders to strengthen SAF’s voice and advance the profession for our members.”

Terry sees forestry as the centerpiece to effective land management. He believes SAF has a powerful role to play in helping stakeholders and the public understand how important forestry and forestry professionals are to the sustainability of our nation’s natural resources.

For many years, Terry has served in a variety of volunteer roles within SAF. SAF members are some of the most engaged, talented, and committed group of volunteers he’s ever seen. Terry is keenly interested in strengthening national support for members, volunteer leaders, state societies, and local chapters.

Terry and his wife will be moving from Loveland, Colorado to the Washington, DC Metro area, where they look forward to making SAF their new home.

If you’re coming to the SAF National Convention, Terry is available to talk with members at the store and on the exhibit hall floor, so come say hello and introduce yourself!
