SAF Seeks Intern for Summer 2023

SAF is excited to begin accepting applications for the summer 2023 Henry Clepper Forest Policy Internship Program. The recently revamped program offers students and recent graduates a unique opportunity to not only work closely with the policy and public affairs team but also learn from and contribute to the entire SAF organization.  

We are seeking one full-time intern to work in SAF’s Washington, DC office for a three-month term with flexible start and end dates from MayAugust 2023. The intern will receive a stipend of $1,650 per month, one year of SAF membership, and a complimentary registration to the 2023 SAF National Convention in Sacramento, California in October 2023. 

All applicants must be: (1) undergraduate students (current or rising juniors and seniors preferred), graduate students, or recent graduates; (2) based in the United States; and (3) interested in pursuing a career that impacts forestry and related natural resources.  

The SAF team works to tailor intern activities to the individual's interests and career goals. Activities will vary but may include: 

  • Tracking and attending congressional hearings 

  • Researching legislation and proposed administrative rules  

  • Creating content for the SAF website and social media 

  • Helping draft letters, testimonies, and other public statements  

  • Writing articles for SAF publications  

  • Helping organize SAF forums, webinars, and other events 

  • Connecting with SAF local unit leaders and student chapters  

  • Participating in meetings with partner organizations, agencies, and congressional offices 

  • Networking with SAF leaders
