Thomas Hill Scholarships and Grants Now Available!

SAF is excited to announce that 2024 will be the inaugural year of the Thomas Hill Jr. Education and Opportunity Fund program, which will provide scholarships to SAF student members and grants to the SAF young professional community.

This new grant and scholarship program is made possible by the Thomas Hill Jr. Education and Opportunity Fund, which was established in 2021 after SAF received a gift from the estate of Thomas Hill. Mr. Hill’s generosity has enabled SAF to provide financial resources to SAF’s youngest members – students and young professionals – as they complete their education and enter forestry and natural resources professions.

Apply for Student Scholarships

The Thomas Hill Fund program offers three scholarships of $1,500 each to fund expenses related to pursuing a two- or four-year degree in forestry, urban forestry, natural resource and ecosystem management, or the forest technology fields. To be eligible for the scholarships, students must be SAF members. Students pursuing two-year degrees must be entering their second year to apply. Students pursuing four-year degrees must be entering their third or fourth year to apply.

Submit a Young Professional Grant Proposal

The Thomas Hill Fund program offers grants of up to $1,000 each to fund projects benefiting local, regional, or national young professional (YP) communities. To be eligible for Hill YP grants, individuals must be an SAF member and a young professional (under the age of 40), representing either an SAF unit or an external entity. Proposed projects may focus on, but are not limited to continuing education efforts, and projects or activities focused on strengthening and promoting leadership within the young professional community.

Submit Your Applications by May 15

Students and young professionals interested in applying for Thomas Hill scholarship and grant opportunities should visit the Grants & Scholarships page located under the Community tab on SAF’s website (eforester.org) for additional details on how to apply.

Applications will be accepted for both opportunities until May 15, 2024, and all applicants will be notified of decisions by July 31, 2024.
